STORY FIELD — Two hits. That’s all the Monarchs were able to muster in their Civil War rematch with R.A. Long. And yet, they were still able to serve revenge to the Lumberjacks in a 5-2 victory that was counted for both bragging rights and positioning in the 2A Greater St. Helens League standings.
The win beneath the lights at Story Field on Friday night, no matter the particulars, was a much-needed response from Mark Morris following a 9-0 loss to R.A. Long earlier in the week. The Monarchs committed eight errors in that contest and struck out frequently enough to fill out a baker’s dozen.
So without a whole lot of offense to speak of, Mark Morris hung its hat on defense during their retort and played nearly flawless in the field.
“I think we cleaned it up out there,” MM skipper Brock Myklebust said. “I joked on Wednesday that you’ll never win with eight errors, but I never said you couldn’t win with just two hits.”
