A strong follow up to a disappointing start allowed Mark Morris senior Broden Toney to play his way into a bronze finish at the 2A District IV boys golf championship at Heron Lakes (Blue) in Portland, Tuesday.
Toney, and Riley Coleman of R.A. Long, each managed to finish in the top-four with just one stroke separating Longview’s top talent on the links in Oregon country. Mason Acker of Washougal wound up winning the whole thing with a two-day total of 145 on the par 72 course.
Acker and Coleman were tied in third place after the first round on Monday when both golfers shot a round of 75. Meanwhile, Toney was just outside the top-5 after Day 1 when he finished on 77.
“Broden had a great tournament overall. His back nine on the first day was probably the worst score of the year for him,” MM coach Kim Ulman said. “The second day was more indicative of how he has played.”
