VANCOUVER — Before the K-Town boys almost pulled off a comeback only Al Michaels could dream of, the Kelso girls ran into a Thunder storm it couldn’t find shelter from.
The Hilanders were blitzed by Mountain View by a score of 57-19 in the first game of Friday’s 3A Greater St. Helens League basketball doubleheader at the Thunder Dome.
Kelso saw its deficit grow quarter-by-quarter as Mountain View’s defensive pressure turned into layups for the Thunder on the other end. The outcome was discouraging, but will hopefully serve as a wakeup call for the battle-tested visitors.
“That’s how good teams are going to play,” Kelso coach Andrew Johnson said. “They’re going to be in your face, they’re going to be up and down and if we want to be a good team we have to match it. We have to be right there with them.”
The contest served as the matinee in a double feature that saw the Kelso boys go toe-to-toe with the Thunder later in the evening.
