Fishermen fight the flu, fend off Warriors
It was a pathologist's worst nightmare and the stuff of legends all at once on Tuesday at the western terminus of the Blast Zone when the Ilwaco boys basketball team defeated Chief Leschi 74-67 in a Pacific 2B League snot-knocker.
“Our program has been hit pretty hard with the flu these past couple of days,” Ilwaco coach Eric McMillan explained. “On my way to the game I got phone calls from three of our varsity players telling me they couldn’t make it, so we had to call up a couple more of our younger guys as reinforcements.”
And from there the Fishermen did their best to collectively recreate the magic of Michael Jordan’s Flu Game by not only holding off the visitors, but somehow getting better as the night grew long and the temperature in the building got hotter.
