Riverhawks ground Fishermen to reach semis
It’s tough to tell what was more impressive about Toledo’s 72-38 win over Ilwaco in the 2B District IV boys basketball tournament, Wednesday, at Rochester High School.
Was it the defense? Yes. Was it the offense? Also, yes. Was it the defense that led to the offense? Also, yes.
The Riverhawks held Ilwaco to just nine points in the first half and kept the Fishermen at seven points or less per quarter over the first three quarters.
But Toledo also saw five players score at least 10 points, with another Cheese Town hooper knocking on the door to double figures.
Whatever it was, it put Toledo ahead 44-9 at halftime against the No. 2 seed out of the Pacific 2B League.
“Nine points at half was awesome,” Toledo coach Grady Fallon said. “Defensively we just didn’t let them get going with anything.”
