SCHROEDER FIELD — The Hilanders picked up its first win of the season and a half share of bragging rights on Friday night when they registered a 2-1 win at home over Mark Morris in a cross-river rivalry non-league boys soccer tilt.
It was a tightly-knotted affair that brought out the best in everyone on the pitch, regardless of which side of the Cowlitz River they typically wake up on. And while it’s been said time and time again that familiarity breeds contempt, it seems somebody forgot to tell the Monarchs and Scots about that arrangement.
“It’s always a good rival game versus Kelso,” Mark Morris coach Luis Garcia. “A lot of the kids on both teams are friends, so it’s always fun.”
