These Are The Breaks — Losses leave many Blast Zone area teams in a precarious position

There was plenty of action on the gridiron this week, and we’ll get to that soon enough, but the most interesting details began to trickle out from official channels early Saturday morning.
The final week of regular season play will decide many fates in the 2A Greater St. Helens League in particular. At the top of the heap Woodland will face off with Ridgefield with the league title on the line.
But that’s nice pretty darn straightforward. Even more interesting is the battle for the final two spots to the playoffs. Currently Mark Morris sits in fourth place, which would give the Monarchs a guaranteed spot in the Week 10 playoff landscape if they can stay there.
However, if R.A. Long can knock off Mark Morris in the Planned City Palooza it would go a long way towards making things mighty interesting. If R.A. Long can pull off the a win at The Stadium, and Columbia River can take down Hudson’s Bay at Kiggin’s Bowl it would leave the the Lumberjacks, Monarchs and Rapids all tied with just two playoff berths up for grabs.
With all of that to consider, Longview School District decision makers announced over the weekend that the War Between the Schools has been moved up by one day to Halloween night at 7 p.m. That schedule change would allow teams one day to recover and recalibrate before engaging in a tiebreaker on Saturday.
If that scenario comes to fruition, one team would wind up with the No. 4 seed to the crossover playoff round, one team would earn a pigtail berth to play the 2A EvCo No. 4 seed, and one team would be left to pack the girdles away and get ready for winter’s indoor sports seasons.
“In regards to the Civil War, every game is a playoff game so it’s just another playoff game,” R.A. Long coach Jon Barker said.
But that’s all a matter for another day. Let’s see how things went down in Week 8.
