Doerty net 30 to lead Kalama over La Center
The Chinooks got a game-high 30 points from Aubrey Doerty, Monday, in a 56-36 win over La Center at home on Simmons Court in 1A Trico League girls basketball action.
Doerty added 14 rebounds to make it a double-double for dinner, and garnished that effort with six steals, five blocks and three steals.
But despite those standout stats, it took Kalama two quarters and one halftime to figure out how to get the Wildcats off their backs. The teams finished the first quarter tied 10-10 and the ‘Nooks enjoyed just a 21-20 lead at the intermission.
Paige Sherry led La Center with 13 points, while Billy Ross added nine points for the visitors.
But after stretching their legs a bit, and drawing some squiggles on a dry erase board, the ‘Nooks returned to the court reinvigorated. Kalama won the third quarter 20-4 and added four more points worth of breathing room in the fourth quarter.
“We finished the second half strong,” Kalama coach Amber Doerty said. “I was proud of the girls coming out strong in the third and executing better. It was a great team win.”
