The Monarchs tried to switch things up in advance of their 2A District IV Girls Soccer Tournament meeting against No. 1 seeded Columbia River, but the Rapids were unfazed in a 3-0 win, Saturday, in Vancouver.
“We came out in a 5-4-1 and they were ready for it,” Mark Morris coach Shilah Nickerson said. “They got one on us early but we made some adjustments and held them to one (goal) until half.”
Ivy Henderson scored that opening goal for the Rapids with an assist by Raya Janson.
Trailing by just one score at the intermission, the Monarchs attempted to make a few more adjustments during the break.
“The beginning of th second half we came out in a 4-4-2 with lots of high pressure that they weren’t expecting,” Nickerson said. “They were given a PK and it definitely shifted momentum, but my girls never quit. They battled the whole game.”
