The Riverhawks have lost three games in a row following a 4-0 shutout at Tenino, Monday, in non-league girls soccer play.
Playing up one classification, Toledo was able to equal the 1A Beavers in many aspects of the contest but couldn’t break the seal to get the scoring started.
“(The) shot count was the same (at) 8-8, (but) we have had trouble finishing,” Toledo coach Horst Malunat said.
Tenino goalkeeper Allison Kalkus helped to frustrate the Riverhawks with six saves on the night. Callie Mickleson led the Beavers with two goals, while Chloe Grayless tallied two assists.
In his first year as head coach of the Riverhawks’ girls soccer team, Malunat is having a tougher go in the standings than the last time when he was in charge in South Lewis County back when he ran the Toledo-Winlock United boys team and had annual reservations in the state tournament. The Riverhawks have now been shutout in three straight games following losses to Rochester (2-0), Friday Harbor (1-0) and Tenino.
“Friday Harbor was a long trip and I was missing a few players because of sickness and a wedding, but we out shot them 16-1,” Malunat noted of Saturday’s contest.
The Riverhawks gave up that lone goal over the weekend in the 39th minute of the first half.
Toledo (3-4) will host Ocosta next Wednesday at 6 p.m.
