Kelso sunk in 2nd half by Central Kitsap
Playing on the road at Harry E. Lang Stadium in Pierce County the Kelso girls soccer team put itself in a good position to advance in the 3A bi-District 3/4 Tournament, but a sour second half allowed Central Kitsap to abscond with a 4-1 win.
The loss ended the Hilanders season with two straight losses in the postseason. Kelso fell to No. 1 ranked Gig Harbor by a score of 5-0 on Saturday to open the tournament.
Central Kitsap staked out a 1-0 lead in the 22nd minute when Maleia Dayao sent a header home past the Hilanders’ defense.
But Karsyn Ross, recently named the 3A Greater St. Helens League co-Player of the Year, had a response near at foot. In the 37th minute she sent a penalty kick home to even the score just in time to feel good about it at the intermission.
Unofficially, it was Ross’ 28th goal of the season. But like all good things, that season had to end.
