State Bound? — Not so fast. Kelso has work left to do.

Contrary to a report from one local publication, the Kelso volleyball team is not yet State bound. But that doesn’t mean the Hilanders won’t wind up there eventually. It’s just that there’s still a few games left to win before putting the hay in the barn.
That’s why it’s dangerous to read just the headlines and it’s important to choose your local news sources carefully in these days and times.
Speaking of days and times, starting around 7 p.m. on Monday the Hilanders began to whittle away at their latest win on their way to a three-set victory over Mountain View. Playing at home on the K-Court, Kelso put the Thunder away convincingly by scores of 25-15, 25-11 and 25-7 in 3A Greater St. Helens League play.
Kelso is now well-positioned to take a high seed into the bi-District Tournament in two weeks as it continues an upward trajectory in both measurable statistics and unquantifiable metrics perceivable only to highly trained volleyball technicians.
“The team had near perfect serving that kept them out of system for most of the game,” Kelso coach Michelle Mury said.
