Mark Morris making strides at the right time
On Thursday the Monarchs won 6-0 on the road at Hudson’s Bay. The 2A GSHL rematch from 24-hours earlier when Mark Morris won in dominant fashion at home.
The rematch was a perfect day for tennis, with bluebird skies and no wind, but the Monarchs were facing a unique problem — too many players with too many academic and extra-cirricular responsibilities that required attention.
“I was a little bit concerned about today’s match,” MM head coach Donnie Harlan said. “We were going to be down four senior varsity players due to other year end school commitments. I figured this short fall of varsity regulars would really put us in a dogfight with the Hudson Bay team on the road.”
But if anything, the Monarchs were even more impressive with their skeleton crew.
“We shuffled our lineup, added four new players to the starting roster of nine players, and asked these players to step up and give it their all,” Harlan noted. “And step up they did.”
