On Track: Wirkkala leads the field
Castle Rock's Brooke Wirkkala has hit the ground running by writing her name into the school record books during the indoor track season at Rocky Mountain College in Billings, Montana.
At the recent David Little Alumni Meet hosted by Black Hills State University in Spearfish, South Dakota, Wirkkala, a junior, won the women's long jump at 5.16 meters. The mark was the second-best attempt in school history behind her own school record of 5.2 meters.
In the high jump, Wirkkala surpassed 1.45 and 1.5 meters before concluding with a successful third attempt at 1.55 meters to win the event as well as tying both the program record and her personal-best leap. Rocky Mountain amassed 102.5 points to finish second in the women's team standings behind host Black Hills State with 139.5.
